Base S and R-Dynamic models come standard with the turbo four engine, but the R-Dynamic can be optioned with the more powerful inline-six-cylinder engine for $5550. The mid-range R-Dynamic model offers the best value in the Discovery lineup, as it adds fog lamps, LED tail lights, aluminum interior trim, and uniquely styled front and rear bumpers. There's a new 12.3-inch digital gauge display and a full-color head-up display for the driver a toggle-style gear selector is also new and all Discovery models now come standard with an adjustable air suspension. Land Rover has improved rear-seat comfort by adding additional padding to the second-row chairs. A new grille, tweaked exterior lighting elements, and new wheel designs give the Disco a visual update, and a new R-Dynamic model-complete with glossy black exterior accents-joins the lineup. Land Rover has given the Discovery a fairly thorough refresh for 2021 that includes two new turbocharged engines-a 296-hp four-cylinder and a 355-hp six-cylinder-as well as a new Pivi Pro infotainment system with an 11.4-inch display. Try that in your Porsche Cayenne or Volvo XC90. There's even a Wade mode that's set up to improve the Discovery's water-fording capability. The Discovery leverages Land Rover's legendary go-anywhere reputation and backs it up by offering an optional two-speed transfer case and a locking rear differential for maximum overlanding freedom. A pair of turbocharged gasoline-powered engines are offered-a four-cylinder and a six-cylinder, both turbocharged-and all Discovery models come with an adjustable air suspension and standard all-wheel drive. With room for up to seven people inside its posh, three-row cabin, the Discovery adds an extra layer of practicality over the two-row Grand Cherokee. You get a commanding view of the road ahead, excellent visibility all round thanks to deep glass and an array of cameras, plus there’s enough space for all the family and the dog (there are even different ‘pet packs’ you can add from the options list).Īnd although the prices are as lofty as the driving position, you do get a decent amount of the latest safety and luxury kit.If a Jeep is too conventional-or plain-for your outdoorsy family, consider the 2021 Land Rover Discovery: it provides a much more upscale vibe to accompany its impressive off-road capability. Much of that is down to the Terrain Response system with its bespoke settings for different conditions. Don’t tell the Defender, but the Discovery is still mightily impressive if you do want to go off road. Otherwise the Discovery story is pretty much as before. That means more black trim around the honeycomb grille (which proved rather popular with bees on our test!) dark Discovery graphics on the front and back, plus unique wheels and paint colours. ![]() And if the D300 is a bit too much (and a bit too pricey), you could go for the D250 with 246bhp, or choose from a couple of petrols that are unlikely to be too popular in the UK.Īlso new is the R-Dynamic trim line, which gives the Discovery a bit of sporting character. The small amount of electrification gives a boost at low revs and smooths out the engine’s stop-start. You won’t really notice the hybrid assistance, which is as it’s meant to be. We’re driving the 296bhp D300 mild-hybrid diesel, which replaces the old V6. It’s sprightly, with 0-60mph gone in 6.5 seconds, and promises up to 33.9mpg. The second row gets new seat cushions, although we wouldn’t call the old ones uncomfortable, and the middle row moves easily to make access to the third row simple. ![]() To be fair, there is much more space in all three rows in the Disco and we’d rather seat seven in here than in any of the car’s rivals it’s comfy wherever you sit and there’s charging power for every chair.
